I have just read the below – what I have written for the day of the 19th Dec – I would not bother reading it if I were you, we basically drove to Melbourne and then went to the cinema. However if you do want more detail and a couple of mediocre pictures, see below:
After a late check out and much deliberation over what to do today we left the hotel in Dandenong and headed to Melbourne a short drive away.
We had booked two nights in the YHA Metro there and decided to check in early and find a cinema to maybe watch a film.
On the way through the centre of Melbourne the heavens opened and we experienced the worst rainfall in Australia to date. Seeing further than a car in front of you was a struggle not to mention the trams (who despite being on rails could still easily take you by surprise).
We arrived at the YHA just as the rain stopped, checked in and then headed straight out to the local IMAX. Apparently it has the third biggest screen in the world. We had decided that we wanted to go and see the new Tron 3D film – not sure why as I personally do not think I saw the original and whilst Emma did, she can not remember it too well. We settled on tickets for the 7.30pm showing and so then had 5 hours to kill.
We took a wander down the road from the IMAX and found ourselves in an area littered with Italian restaurants. We stopped for a coffee and cake before taking a look in a couple of shops for Yahtzee – the dice game we played in one of the huts on the Routeburn Track and the preferred source of Christmas competition within the campervan.
Having no luck, we gave up and took the car for a drive just as the weather turned and rain set in again. We took a drive round the trendy suburb of St Kilda stopping to see the kite Surfers in the bay, the oldest operating rollercoaster in the world and the rather innovative harbour moorings for boats.

With the rain showing no signs of letting up we headed back towards the 'Italian restaurant' suburb where we had a Mexican (?) meal before making our way to watch the film.
The IMAX screen was impressive but I would not recommend going to see the film itself.
It was still torrential rain when we left and the dark of the night made it even more difficult to see where we were driving. We had to persevere though as we needed to fill the car up with petrol as we were due to drop the car off at the hire depot first thing tomorrow.
Finally we drove back to the YHA where a wicked camper had parked in our spot.... the writing on the back made me laugh... and nod in agreement.
We then proceeded to spend some time on the internet in the common room/ lounge booking a campsite for Christmas before retiring to bed to watch an Only Fools and Horses.
I told you it was not that exciting a day but well done for persevering!
