I may have alluded to this before but why is it that most accommodation in South America, irrespective of standard, had good quality, uninterrupted and mainly free wifi internet access but in New Zealand, and now Australia, it has often been an additional charge and/ or limited access (by time or data usage)?
My hypothesis is that Australia and NZ had the ability to hook on to the internet early on when it was less easy/ affordable to access and so generated convoluted ways to do so and now can not give up on the revenue created by these convoluted ways. Whereas South America got access to the internet relatively late, when it was easy to access and have basically just hooked up a router and given everyone access to it.
In the two days we have been in Australia it seems worse than in NZ. We have given up expecting to find free access but even when we pay we struggle to get everything we want to do done in the limited time allotted.
Now we are in Australia we have the added need to book where we are going to be stopping in the coming days as unlike South America and NZ we have not booked accommodation prior to leaving the UK.
We have 2 or 3 daily update blogs ready to go but can not get enough wifi access time to publish them. It is the pictures that take the time to upload and they are pretty integral to the blog.
We arrived in Adelaide and paid the AUD$10 for 24hour access at the YHA we were stopping at... however 3 hours in the hostel server went down and when we left 24hours later there was still no access..
With this in mind, we will maybe post shorter blogs as and when (this being the first) and then publish the day to day update when possible. We want to continue to post the daily updates - as well as updating you on what we have done, these are in affect our diary of memories and so are still important to us.
With the two minutes we have left of the AUD$10 = 60mins internet access at the current motel I may even post another short blog.
