A Day in Wellington - 1st Dec

Today we had a leisurely morning in our B&B and had a chat with Charlie and Paul on Skype who showed us the snow back in the UK. We then headed into town and found Joe's Garage, a cafe with free wifi, in order to plan a bit of our 5 weeks in Oz. We ended up having coffee and then lunch there and stayed until the cafe's wifi timed us out and hinted that we should leave.

After a short walk along the harbour we popped into the free national museum, TePapa, where we had a look round an exhibition on earthquakes, saw a massive preserved squid, watched a 3D film on the squid and looked at the exhibition on the Waitangi Treaty (which gave us infinitely more information on the Treaty than visiting the Treaty House in the town of Waitangi itself).

To add to the variety we then headed to a museum on New Zealand Olympians past and present (this was quite short). To calm our brains after these rather mixed experiences we went for a walk along the docks and went up on the Cable Car to catch some views of the city. By now it was 4.30pm and so we started to make our way back across town to the B&B to get changed as we were going out in the evening.

Anne, Chris and Matthew had invited us for dinner around their place. Anne is a friend of Andy's family who had emigrated to Wellington about 7 years ago. We had a December barbecue (which was a first for us), strawberries and chocolate and a lovely evening.
