London to Rio - 2nd Nov

Emma and her mum had formed in their mind a picture of a chaotic, assault course style Heathrow Terminal 5 and so we left the house at 7.15am, a cool 5 hours before boarding the flight. Whilst the tube journey was almost 2 hours in itself we were airside, through security, by 10.10am. Security took a total of 5 mins with no queues to be seen.

I do admit though, it was nice to be there early and to have a relaxing brunch in perhaps one of the poshest Wetherspoons I have been into (well we were led to our seats by the 'maƮtre d' '). We still managed to need to rush to make the plane.

In preparation for the NZ leg of our trip I accustomed myself to a 'flat white'.... I am still not sure on the difference between this and a strong latte but have definitely been sucked in.

Terminal 5 is great, very efficient, clean and modern, but no free wifi to be seen hence I have taken time away from BA's ondemand entertainment to draft this. Just watched 'Inception' a good film if not a little to over complicated when watching on a 6inch sq screen and tandem power snorers in your left ear.

Here is a picture of Emma and I ready for take off...

There is not a lot to say about the flight apart from it turned out to be pretty uneventful if not very long... the A Team film was about the only highlight.

Arrived in Rio an hour late but had a delightful taxi ride with numerous distant brightly lit sights pointed out by a rather cheerful Maria.

The hotel is basic but comfortable, I am sure we will sleep well tonight despite the euro-pop din coming from next door.
